In 1975 when I was in college, there was a great song by The Charlie Daniels Band that got a lot of play on the FM rock station I listened to in Eugene. I can’t
remember the name of the song, and I couldn’t find it last night on You Tube.
Bu
t I was reminded of it when The Charlie Daniels Band, led by its legendary 75-year-old frontman,
launched into a hard-driving, 7-plus minute rock song Friday night at the Oregon Jamboree in Sweet Home.
You think of Charlie Daniels and Oregon Jamboree and you naturally think country, and he indeed plays a lot of county. But Daniels is also known for his Southern rock, and
he certainly rocked in the evening heat Friday.
The band followed the rock song (in the video below) with one of Daniels’ country standards, “A Few More Rednecks.”
After listening to Charlie Daniels last night, he gets added to the growing list of greatest over-60 rockers.
