Years ago when Nancy and I lived on Western Boulevard in Corvallis, we took a number of bike rides out Campus Way from 30th Street to 53rd Street, then on to Philomath and other places. I don’t think we ever walked that stretch of Campus Way until this afternoon.

We started about 1:30 from the parking lot at Reservoir Road and 53rd just south of the fairgrounds, and walked east on the Campus Way path. You wouldn’t have known it was Super Bowl Sunday. Lots of bicyclists, skateboarders and walkers in both directions.

I’ve always liked this rural stretch — property owned by Oregon State University — that’s so close to the main part of the campus. Along the way, we saw alpacas, cattle and plastic bag scarecrows in a field of freshly planted something.

It took about 20 minutes to get to 35th Street and another 10 minutes or so to reach our turnaround point — OSU’s Hallie Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families at 26th and Campus Way. We stopped near there, sat on a bench for a while and soaked up the sun. What a beautiful campus, we both agreed.

The breeze died down a bit and it was warmer on the way back. The roundtrip: 3.2 miles.

It was sure a nice way to spend a chunk of Super Bowl Sunday.
