I received an email on Monday from a Philomath reader who said he was having trouble finding the obituary archives.
Before I called him, he happened to see an ad in the Gazette-Times titled “the new Archives.” The ad explains how to find past stories on gazettetimes.com. Similar ads have been running in the Democrat-Herald and Lebanon Express.
On our old websites, you could select “Archives” under each major category: News, Sports, Entertainment, etc.
On our new websites, you won’t find the word “archives.” When a reporter or editor posts a story in the new online content management system, it will remain in the system unless it is deleted.
So how do you find an past story on the new websites? Two locations on every page of democratherald.com, gazettetimes.com or lebanon-express.com. Both locations contain the word “Search.”
Here’s where to go:
1) On the top right of each page, Click on the eyeglass of “Web Search powered by YAHOO SEARCH.” It will take you to a search field.
2) On the bottom right of each page, go to “Search,” type in some keywords and click “Go.”
Happy searching.

Jen, I'm sorry you're having trouble with the searches. When the old archives were imported into the new content management system, some problems occurred — and continue to persist. Examples include stories not showing up in searches and stories with the wrong photos. It's happening at other Lee newspapers that have launched CMS in recent months. Townnews.com, which developed the CMS, is aware of the problems and working on them, we are told.
