I can’t say for sure I came down with the swine flu Thursday night and Friday, but I had six of the 10 symptoms associated with it: fever (102 degrees Thursday night and 100.6 most of Friday), body aches (and numb fingertips for several hours Thursday), sore throat, headache, chills and fatigue. It came on fast and lasted about 30 hours.

I stayed home from work Friday and mostly isolated myself in the room upstairs. I didn’t feel up to working on the computer, reading or even watching TV. I mostly just laid in bed, slept and looked out at the birds and trees in Takena Park.

The one thing I did find soothing during the worst part of Friday afternoon was music on my Ipod. I played 10 songs, the most soothing of which were by the gentle voice of Corinne Bailey Rae.

So here are my Top 10 Songs to Help Soothe the Swine Flu:
1, “Butterfly,” Corinne Bailey Rae
2, “Put Your Records On,” Corinne Bailey Rae
3, “Like a Star,” Corinne Bailey Rae
4, “Those Sweet Words,” Norah Jones
5, “Don’t Miss You At All,” Norah Jones
6, “Wake Me Up,” Norah Jones (The opening lyrics are perfect for swine flu sufferers: “Wake me up when it’s over.”)
7, “Desperado,” The Eagles (The hit song came out in 1976, and I never paid attention to the lyrics until Friday.)
8, “Morning in Marin,” Santana
9, “El Farol,” Santana (Our news editor, Kim Jackson, once said “El Farol” sounds like “elevator music.” And that’s exactly what you want when you’re battling the swine flu — something uplifting.
10, “Novus,” Santana. (This inspirational song from 2002 features Placido Domingo and Carlos Santana. Put it last in your swine flu playlist. Listen to it as you start to feel better. It will put you in the right frame of mind for your return to wellness.)
